I’ve realized with my coaching and training work with real estate agents the most obvious reality: Agents are people first. You can throw all the tech, tools & strategies at them but often ‘success’ will elude them. Why is that?
Emotional blocks and barriers created from life experience, expectations and belief systems, and conflicting values quite often get in the way of any logic and reasoning and I believe our traditional system fosters much of this.
We work in an industry that is supposed to encourage cooperation but it can in reality be more focused on competition which breeds most of problems I’ve been able to identify; lack of trust with the public based on lack of transparency and cooperation. An aging system that is struggling to remain relevant in a new digital age and is disconnected from its own people. And people is what they are.
I believe a new paradigm is required. We must look for the ‘win/win’. We must be willing to be vulnerable and share our own challenges. We must stop calling each other out and instead look for ways to lead and lift each other up. We must be the change we want to see in our world.
Our industry needs healing. We should be proud of our hard work and the impact we have on our clients’ lives and our communities. We are in fact shaping our neighbourhoods and lives for future generations. What we do MATTERS. How we do it matters.
I’m calling on you to be that example . To use our collective voices to make that impact. I truly believe that together we can affect positive change like a small pebble dropped in a pond can create a ripple effect, we too can take small action that will have far reaching impact.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
“No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Excellence in all things beginning with our thoughts and our judgements. We must learn to eliminate our quick responses; our idle chat; our gossip. Living a life of integrity means living with dignity and it all begins with self love.
Spiritual leader and author Marianne Williamson advises:
Withholding love is a form of self-sabotage, as what we withhold from others we are withholding from ourselves.
